The past two weeks have been way-crazy in a good way. We are moving in a month, and that is completely nuts (in a great way). In 2011, we were busy planning a trip to Ukraine, and we also poked around a little looking at houses for sale. One particular farmhouse landed right smack in the middle of my heart. My hubby and I totally loved this place, but it turned out the owners (who we happened to realize we knew from church!) stayed in the house, and we stayed in our house, too.
So we went to Ukraine, hung out with our Sasha, the boy we tried to adopt, but couldn’t because of the government red-tape stuff. We met his friends and saw his village (those are stories for another day, because they are too big and too amazing to really serve justly here right now. Plus I will cry. And I just can’t be crying right now, ok?). We were totally wrecked (in a good way) by our time with him and in Ukraine. That was August 2011. The next month 5 of the kids we met (his best pal included) moved to Atlanta as refugees with their mom and two other siblings. And the very next January, their whole family moved to my little Maine city!!! And God found them a house literally 3 doors down from mine. God is so full of surprises.
Two weeks ago, I noticed that my friend who owns the sweet farmhouse we fell in love with is moving out of state, so I hopped on my computer and asked her about whether the house was for sale. Um, yeah, so it happens it was, and we are buying the house we loved in 2011. (Insert me doing the Carlton Banks dance from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air circa 1990.)
When I look back at the closed door we had in moving a couple years ago, I can now see that it wasn’t a “no,” it was a “not right now.” If I had been able to move in 2011, I would have missed so much. I think God knew their family could use friends 3 doors away, and He knew my family would love being so nearby.
And He knew the good plans He had for our friends whose home we are excited to be buying. He works all things together for all of our good and for His glory. All the time. Even when we don’t understand all the details.
So, friends, that being said, my Snapshot Saturday is pretty much about a week I spent painting rooms and cleaning. Maybe not riveting content. But the story is cool. We are either going to rent out (or sell, if someone wants to buy it instead of renting) our house in September, so we’re busting our booties to get things done.
Sagie’s closet, after I cleaned it out. Please, for the love of all things, don’t ask me to clean closets again for at least 20 years. I don’t have the closet organization gene. It completely missed me. I am a domestic rock star in my own mind, having cleaned 3 closets this week…..
The thing about closet cleaning that stinks: the stuff that comes OUT of the closet and has to be dealt with…. And can I tell you that Sage wanted to play with… Every. Single. Thing. (Disclaimer: the room was successfully picked up and items organized, lest you feel anxiety looking at this photo…)
I’m undecided about my opinion on The Space Bag as a storage option. But here are the things I took out of two closets.
Lia and I received free tickets to Lil Wayne from my husband’s company. Here’s her “selfie” of us pre-concert. Before you label me the “worst Christian mom ever,” please take heart knowing that we left early. But I will go to the grave happy that I took her, because Lia and I had a blast standing in the pouring rain, getting spattered with mud as people walked by in front of us, laughing at the silly stuff we were seeing… and feeling slightly over-dressed….
My husband is the greatest dad on the whole face of the earth, because the following night, he took Lia and 3 of her friends to the Big Time Rush concert that he also received tickets to from his company, and that concert lasted for like FOUR HOURS. He chilled at the boy band concert, but he drew the line at participating in the photo booth… He’s so adorable, you guys.
So…. on to the house. I am obviously going to have to find activities away from home for the kids to do for the next few weeks…. If you have tips on how to keep a house show-able with 3 kids, help a girl out, would you?!
I hope you’ll link up with the blog hop and share some moments and photos from your week! And be sure to visit the other blogs here, and leave some comment love. We do this every Saturday, so even if you can’t join this week, I hope you’ll think about doing this with us next week, friend.
